Low Yat Case: Youth Will Ask AG for Review of Charge

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — The youth charged with stealing a handphone at the Low Yat Plaza in Kuala Lumpur is sending a letter of representation to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for a review of the charge against him.

Lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, who is representing Shahrul Anuar Abdul Aziz, 22, told the court this when the case came up for mention before Magistrate Zura Syazween Hamizan on Friday.

Mohd Khairul also requested the court to set a new date for mention of the case to enable him to submit the representation.

The court then set Aug 26 to mention the case.

Shahrul Anuar was charged with stealing the phone, costing RM800, at Techasia Boutique, Plaza Low Yat, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur at 4.47 pm last July 11.

The charge, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment for 10 years and fine, if found guilty.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Noor Svetlana Mohd Noor Nordin.
