Sunday Family Ride To Kickstart This Sunday

  KOTA KINABALU, 28 Oktober 2015 (Malaysiaaktif) – Sunday Family Ride (SFR) on every first Sunday of each month is going to be a great day for friends and families in  Kota Kinabalu starting 1st November, this week.

KK City folks or whoever is in town can now enjoy a 4-hour gathering and ride their bicycles along a 7km route starting at the Sabah Trade Centre roundabout to the popular Likas Bay food court, Anjung Selera.

Minister of Community Developmen and Consumer Affair Datuk Hajah Jainab Haji Ahmad Ayid said the route will be closed to motor traffic for four hours from 6am until 10am to enable the public to ride safely.

Drivers form the city towards Yayasan Sabah dan KingFisher may take the alternative roads at Jalan Teluk Likas, Jalan Punat Tanah and Jalan Tuaran during the road closure, she said.

She was speaking to the reporters during a press conference on the upcoming program which to be held this Sunday at Likas Bay Public Park.

Sabah is the second state after Kuala Lumpur which initiated “KL Car Free Morning” held every first and third Sunday every month hosted by KL City Hall.

Following suit, Jainab said it is the responsibility of the state government to develop a healthy lifestyle for the people and the community through cycling activity.

“The ministry is working together with various government departments and agencies to make sure this programme run smoothly for the public.

“In fact, we have outlined eight months SFR Programme form November this year until June 2016. The public will have the opportunity to take part in various activities, including exhibitions by government departments, lucky draws, and cycling clinic conducted by KK Cycling Association after their cycling activity,” she said.

Jainab said the inaugural programme would draw people from all walks of life to make use of the opportunity to cycle as a healthy activity besides promoting a livable city.

Also present were KK City Hall Director-General Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, Deputy Permanent Secretary Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affair Janet K.L Chee, Chief Assistant Director Transport and Traffic, Public Works Department Ir.Alan Wong and Deputy Director Giat Mara Centre Mohd Noh Nawawi.
