Six of the 17 Islamic State terror suspects, including mastermind Murad Halimmuddin Hassan and two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) personnel, have been brought to the Alor Setar Sessions Court to be charged Thursday.

It had been reported by The Star previously that the 17 suspects had allegedly planned terror attacks on several landmarks in the city as they felt that Malaysia was a secular, non-Islamic state.

However, the IS-linked terror cell’s plans were thwarted when the Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division officers made a swoop, rounding up 17 militants in raids in Kedah and the Klang Valley on April 5.

Among those held were a religious teacher, two civil servants, a security officer and the leader, a former Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee.
