800 To Compete In 1st MBV-Polytechnic KK Taekwondo Championship

KOTA KINABALU, 6 Apr (Malaysiaaktif) – Some 800 taekwondo enthusiasts across Sabah will compete in the 1st MBV-Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu Cup Taekwondo Invitational Championship 2018, to be held at the Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu campus here on 11-13 May 2018.

The inaugural event jointly organized by Master Barry Voon Taekwondo Club Sabah (MBVTCS) and Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu, will see several categories to be contested under two major disciplines namely the Poomsae and Kyorugi disciplines.

The Organising Committee Co-Chairman, Saril bin Haji Yusop said, six categories will be contested under the Poomsae discipline and five categories for the Kyorugi discipline according to the respective age groups.

“For the Poomsae category discipline, the categories involved are the Novice (6-8 years), Super Cadet (9-11 years), Cadet (12-14 years), Junior (15-17 years), Senior 1 (18-30 years) and Senior 2 (31 years and above). While for Kyorugi, the categories are similar except for the fifth category which is an Open category for 18 years and above “, Saril said.

Meanwhile, Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu Director Zainab binti Othman said, the event is the best platform to explore and nurture the talents and potential of participants in taekwondo sports in Sabah.

“This tournament is the best platform to create awareness to the Sabah community of the benefits that this sport has to offer, especially to children as early as 6 years old, as well as to develop the young generation with potentials and nurture them to become the state’s representative in future national and even international levels championships”, Zainab said.

This tournament will also benefit Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic in their effort in conducting talent scouting in order to acquire talented athletes that can be absorbed to pursue higher education at Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu, she added.

According to Zainab, Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu is honoured to have been invited as partner with MBV Club and this tournament is seen as the first step for many more collaborations to come.
